The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday, July 7, at the Washington Yacht and Country Club. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members gathered in the Pamlico Room for dinner and business. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order and Russell Smith led in the Pledge of Allegiance. The talented Bartow Houston took the lead in one verse of “My Country ’Tis of Thee,” and Club Chaplain Bruce Rabon gave thanks for the meal.

The night was set aside for Club Assembly so there was no speaker. This is a time for reviewing club procedures and planning ahead. The Club Year Book for 2016-2017 was handed out. The Year Book is a must have for members as it covers everything from officers and standing committees to important dates and club history. Club Secretary Sam Grimes is working to update by-laws and offered information and answered questions as President McLawhorn led members through the book. During the meeting, Russell Smith was honored as Rotarian of The Year for 2015-2016. Mr. Smith has just completed his second year as a Rotarian and was very honored to be selected. Prseident McLawhorn read a list of Mr. Smith’s contributions to Rotary and presented him with a handsome plaque. With all business settled, the meeting concluded with Russell Smith leading members in reciting the Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do.
