Barbara Boyd-Williams has been serving on the Beaufort County Board of Education for seven years. In March 2009, Williams was approved to fill a vacancy created when John White stepped down from the board. She has been serving for District 3 since that time.

Chairman Terry Williams commented, “Barbara Boyd-Williams has graciously and faithfully served on the Beaufort County school board for many years. Her compassion for the children within our community is one of her strongest qualities. Mrs. Williams supports the mission of the board to educate our students well and to support them while they meet their full potential in Beaufort County Schools. I have learned much from her dedication to listening to the issues and her patience in seeking the best solutions to those issues.  She is a true professional in her approach to school operations and shows great respect to fellow board members and their opinions. One could not ask for a better person to serve alongside.”

Williams is very compassionate about the children of Beaufort County, not just the ones in her district but countywide. She wants each and every child to get the best education, from the little ones in pre-K to those in high school getting ready for the workplace or college.

That caring attitude has been the drive to make her want to continue as a member of the Board of Education even after her first and second terms expired. She is not only compassionate about the children, but also a big advocate for the teachers. She is always willing to listen to their needs and wants them to succeed in educating our youth.

Williams lives in Belhaven and is married and has two children. She was born and raised in Pantego, and after serving in the military, she made Belhaven her home 15 years ago.

Beaufort County Schools is honored to have such a caring and compassionate board member as Barbara Boyd-Williams.

Over the next several weeks, the Daily News will be highlighting Beaufort County Board of Education members, as part of a spotlight series about the members’ backgrounds and their roles on the board.
