Nina B. DeJong

Mrs. Nina DeJong, a resident of Pinetown, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at Duke University Medical Center, following a courageous battle with COPD.

There will be no services at this time.

Nina was born in to William (Bill) and Beverly Boorom on September 21, 1954. She went to school at Dundee Central School in Dundee, New York. She would meet her husband Gary while he was serving in the US Air Force (Hickam AFB) to fall in love towards marriage two weeks later on March 22, 1974 on the base in Honolulu, Hawaii. She worked for 25 years as a bus driver and assistant to exceptional children at Bath Elementary School until her retirement in 2013. Nina will be always remembered for her commitment to the needs of children with special needs.

Nina is preceded in death by her parents, William and Beverly Boorom, and a daughter Nichole Boorom.

Nina is survived by her husband Gary DeJong; children Cameron DeJong of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jaime DeJong Woolard of Washington, North Carolina; granddaughter Danica Woolard of the home; sisters Susan Long of Dundee, New York, Kimberly Margeson of Penn Yan, New York, and Judith Boorom of Dundee, New York; brothers Keith Boorom of Dundee, New York and Thomas Boorom of Penn Yan, New York; niece Megan (Tony) Hill of Penn Yan, New York; nephew Matthew Messenger of Dundee, New York; and several more nieces and nephews.
