The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association hosts the exciting trio “Locust Honey” tonight at 7 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre in downtown Washington.
Locust Honey String Band is based in Nashville, Tennessee. Chloe Edmonstone and Meredith Watson bring their experience in old time, bluegrass and pre-war blues to both their original material and the traditional songs and tunes of the American southeast. With a rotating instrumentation of fiddles, open-back and resonator banjos, acoustic and resonator guitars, they set an emphasis on lively arrangements that showcase their signature vintage vocal harmonies. Joined by John Miller on upright bass, they have been touring the U.S., UK and Ireland since 2012. The Irish Post claimed, “This is American Roots Music at its best,” and the group has been described as having “heartbreaking country harmonies and raging old-time fiddle tunes.” They are touring the region promoting their new CD, “Never Let Me Cross Your Mind.”
The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association sponsors fun, informal “jam sessions” for traditional musicians regardless of skill level on Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday mornings, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre Gallery. Admission is free. Traditional music fans and musicians are invited to come and play and enjoy the music. Visitors, newcomers and young folks are especially welcome to join the fun. Please visit the website for location information or call 252-946-2504.
