The Washington Yacht & Country Club was the perfect setting the evening of July 21 for Rotary members to welcome District Governor Jim Findley to Washington.

After a social period in the 19th Hole, members moved to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business. President David McLawhorn called the Washington (evening)

Rotary Club to order and Jay Sullivan led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Songmeister Bartow Houston led the group in one verse of “America” and Club Chaplain Bruce Rabon gave thanks for the meal.

After a wonderful seafood dinner, President McLawhorn welcomed guests Kathy Findley, wife of Governor Findley, Assistant Governor Spencer Stanley and Denice Smith. Serena Sullivan shared the Health and Happiness report and led in extending birthday wishes to Russell Smith. Bill Wall gave an update on a global grant the club is involved in to help build a hospital in remote India. Without further business, the meeting was turned over to District Governor Findley.

Findley used his experiences in travel with the diplomatic service to talk about Rotary on a national level. He stressed the importance of reaching out to others and involving them in the plan of action. The Rotary theme for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity,” and Mr. Findley reflected on how we could best achieve that goal worldwide. He used the term “boots on the ground” to explain the best way to get started. Before finishing up, he awarded recruiting pins to Serena Sullivan and Bartow Houston for bringing new members into the evening club. President McLawhorn presented Governor Findley with a first edition Charlie Griffin Memorial Fishing Tournament T-shirt, and Rocky Jacobs closed it out by leading in the Four Way Test.
