George D. “Danny” Asby

Mr. George Daniel “Danny” Asby, age 76, a resident of Washington, died Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his home at 212 Fairway Drive.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church and will be officiated by Lee Kinney.

Mr. Asby was born in Beaufort County on June 11, 1940 to the late William Leonidus Asby and Ruby Ecklin Asby. He was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army. On June 20, 1964 he married the former Mary R. Tankard who survives. Mr. Asby worked in the beer and wine industry for over forty years distributing to the local grocery stores and restaurants. He enjoyed visiting with people as well as his clients while working his route. He was always giving compliments and hugs in an effort to brighten their day. Mr. Asby loved his family especially his grandchildren. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and his true past time was his love of the river.

Survivors include his wife Mary T. Asby, three children, Braun Asby Woolard and husband Lee, Mary Martin Asby Moore and husband John, all of Washington, George Daniel Asby II and wife Beth of Stokes, five grandchildren, Carson Asby, Taylor Asby, Peyton Woolard, Hunter Moore, MaryPage Moore, three step-grandchildren, Dylan Moore, Justin Moore, Trey Moore, a sister-in-law Shirley Asby, many nieces and nephews, and a special dog Samuel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Felix Asby and Billy Asby.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service and other times at the home.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone for their prayers and overwhelming support during this difficult time. We would also like to send a special thanks to the Community Hospice Staff who went above and beyond to provide Danny and our family superior care and loving support.
