According to Shelby Brothers, the director of dental assisting at MCC, most of these students already have jobs. This popular program prepares individuals to assist dentists in the delivery of dental treatment and to function as an integral member of a dental team while performing chair side and related office and laboratory procedures.
Course work includes instruction in general studies, biomedical sciences, dental sciences, clinical sciences and clinical practice. This program’s combination of lecture, laboratory and clinical experiences provide students with knowledge in infection/hazard control, radiography, dental materials, preventive dentistry and clinical procedures.
Graduates may be eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board Examination to become certified dental assistants. This course of study is a full-time curriculum program, which allows entry in the fall semester only. Successful students should complete the program in three consecutive semesters.
Dental assisting is a very competitive program. Potential students must apply by March 15, 2017.
