A man involved in an accidental pool drowning last week has died.
Demetrius Emmanuel Palmer Sr., 42, was rushed to the hospital with his 10-year-old son Demetrius Emmanuel Palmer Jr. last Monday after both were found unresponsive at the Days Inn outdoor pool, located at 916 Carolina Ave. in Washington.
Passersby began performing CPR on the victims before emergency crews arrived to take over, according to a press release from Washington Police Department.
Crews performed CPR on the boy for about 10 minutes before rushing him to Vidant Beaufort Hospital, and for 29 minutes on the father before transporting him as well, according to Capt. William Chrismon. The boy later died, but the father was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment and remained in critical condition for days.
Palmer Sr. passed away on Wednesday.
Friends of the family have since set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
“We are trying to raise money to help the family bury Demetrius Palmer Sr., who we all love because there is nothing in the world that he wouldn’t have done for his family and friends. Let’s help send him off the right way,” a message on the page states.
Palmer Sr. lived on Trails End North in Washington, and his son lived in New York. More details on their stay at Days Inn were not made available.
Palmer Sr. listed his hometown on social media as Brooklyn, New York.
