Benjamin (Ben) Franklin Grant, age 86, a resident of 1751 Ephesus Church Road, Blounts Creek, NC, passed away August 25, 2016.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 3:00pm Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Ecklin Cemetery on Ephesus Church Road in Blounts Creek, NC. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Jack Bobbitt, Jim Lewis, Joe Cutler, (the late) Billy Lewis, (the late) Mayhew Banks and (the late) Fred Hollis.

Ben Grant was born May 8, 1930, son of the late Uriah Grant and Elizabeth Phillips Grant of Goose Nest Township in Martin County, NC. On December 12 1959, he married the former Mary Cathron King who preceded him in death January 18, 2002. He actively served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1955. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Road Maintenance Division, a member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church of Blounts Creek, NC and Disabled American Veterans Post 48 of Washington. He was known for being a backyard mechanic and farmer.

He is survived by two sons: William Grant and wife Tracy of Blounts Creek, NC, and Darrel Grant of Asheboro, NC. He is also survived by a sister Marie Grant Hill of Blounts Creek, NC, a brother William Shaheen of Scaly Mountain, NC, three grandchildren: Curtis Grant of Reelsboro, NC, Michele Robinson of Tarboro, NC, Jessica Grant of Blounts Creek, NC, two great-grandchildren: Addysen Grant of Reelsboro, NC, and Dani Rae Robinson of Tarboro.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Shaheen of Salisbury, MD.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and at other times at 1751 Ephesus Church Road, Blounts Creek, NC.
