Mrs. Frances Blackledge Wilson, 72, a resident of Britthaven of Washington, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Temple of Jesus Christ United Church, Washington, with Bishop James L. Woolard officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Beaufort County on April 11, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Mary Bell Simmons Moore and Jasper Blackledge. She attended the former P.S. Jones High School and earned her GED in New York. She retired as a caretaker at a mental health care center in New York. She was an employee of Wal-Mart and was also burial association office accountant with Randolph Funeral Home, Bonner Street, Washington. She was active with The Blind Center of Washington. She was married to Arthur Wilson, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Temple of Jesus Christ United Church, Washington, where she served on the missionary board and women’s auxiliary.
Survivors include three daughters, Marian Turner, Gloria Jean “Sally” Woolard and Sylvia Singleton, all of Washington; one son, Clarence Smith Jr. of Albany, N.Y.; one brother, Robert Lee Blackledge of West Windsor, N.J.; two sisters, Betty Jean Moore and Georgia Woolard, both of Washington; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jasper Parmelee and two sisters, Louise Blackledge Hansley and Sadie Bell Moore Crandell.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Marian Turner, 872 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington.
