Tyrrell sheriff’s officers responded to 1,106 law enforcement calls or complaints during July, Sheriff Darryl Liverman reported recently to the county commissioners. There were 41 ambulance and six fire calls in July, as well.

The sheriff pointed out 17 wrecks with property damage and two more resulting in personal injury. “A lot of them involved collisions with wild animals,” he explained.

And increased traffic through the county was due in part to the Outer Banks and Currituck County chambers of commerce advising tourists to use I-95 and U.S. Highway 64 to avoid delays along U.S. Highway 158 in reaching the resort area, he said.

Sixty-nine arrests on 105 charges were recorded in July, including 55 for traffic violations.

Officers served 103 criminal and 21 civil papers for the courts.

The sheriff’s transport ledger showed 13 trips amounting to 803 miles and consuming 16 and one-half hours in transporting inmates to and from confinement facilities.

Seven men and one woman were housed for various time periods in the Dare County Detention Center at a cost of $5,200.

Twelve deputies received a total of 144 hours of in-service training during July.

The sheriff and his deputies drove 18,779 miles on duty during July.
