PHOTOS: 7th-annual Darleen’s Flamingo 5K

A crowd of people gathered in the Smithton community near Belhaven on Saturday morning to show their support and raise money for the Shepard Cancer Foundation, as part of the seventh-annual Darleen’s Flamingo 5K. Participants ran or walked a 5K course and then enjoyed a homemade breakfast. Named after Darleen Smith, who passed away from breast cancer in 2010, the Flamingo 5K is a way to honor her, as well as bring residents of the Smithton area closer together.
