Returning to school on Thursday, fourth- and fifth-graders at John Small Elementary immediately went into action to help their fellow classmates in need from the effects of Hurricane Matthew. Many of John Small’s families were without power for three or more days, essentially losing everything in their refrigerators and freezers. In response to this devastation, non-perishable food items collected Thursday and Friday will be distributed to any families seeking assistance. Principal Kelly Makepeace said, “I want to personally thank all of our parents, teachers and community members that have offered help to our families in need.”
