CHOCOWINITY — A man was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after losing control of his 1994 Nissan truck on Old Blounts Creek Road in the late hours of Tuesday.

The call came in right before midnight, and Chocowinity Fire and EMS and Beaufort County EMS’ Medic 4 responded to the scene, according to Chocowinity Fire Chief Tommy Pendley.

Pendley said he could not give many details of the crash, but there was only the one vehicle involved. Although he could not speculate, Pendley said the man’s injuries appeared to be serious and were more than the EMS personnel could handle.

“The driver just lost control of the vehicle,” he said. “It’s still under investigation right now.”

The investigation was turned over and is now being conducted by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident also knocked out power in the area at about 11:30 p.m., but Tideland Electric Membership Corp. linemen had it back up and running around 3 a.m.
