A 14-year-old boy has died after a dirt bike accident Wednesday evening.
Authorities received a call around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday about an accident on Hodges Road in Washington, according to 1st Sgt. Gary Brown with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Although Brown could not confirm it at this time, other reports have stated the deceased’s name as Cody Hodges. Brown said someone who lived on Hodges Road called in the accident.
Once authorities arrived at the scene, Hodges was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he later died.
“It’s still under investigation,” Brown said. “We’ve got to get witness statements.”
Highway Patrol authorities have received no medical details of the events surrounding Hodges’ transport to Greenville, and they will not have more information until the medical examiner’s report is released.
Medical personnel are bound by the law to keep all patient information under wraps, especially in regards to minors.
Brown said he was not sure if all of Hodges’ next of kin had been contacted as of Wednesday afternoon.
“The troopers worked on it all they could last night,” Brown said. “There’s a whole lot of unknowns any time you have a single-vehicle accident.”
He said he hopes authorities will have more details in the next day or so.
