CHOCOWINITY — Raised in a Barn Farm’s third-annual Six Nights of Fright is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever, according to owner Jane Boahn.

The events began this Friday and Saturday, and will continue next Friday through Monday.

Residents who come out for some Halloween fun can expect to see old favorites, including hayrides, live entertainment, food vendors and a children’s Little Barn of Boos, with a carnival setup, games and candy, Boahn said. The haunted trail is back, as well, and it’s about three times longer than it has been in years past, she said.

“You have to wear appropriate clothing and shoes. There’s even an area this year where you have to do a little bit of crawling,” Boahn said.

One of the featured activities is the Witches Night slated for next Saturday, in which guests are encouraged to dress up in witch costumes and the Le Moulin Rouge de Danse group will perform a witches dance.

Although floodwaters and high winds from Hurricane Matthew did some damage to the property and wreaked havoc on the farm’s corn maze, forcing the farm to close it down for a while, Boahn said the family was able to restore almost everything.

“It didn’t flood it completely. We were able to recover most of it,” she said of the corn maze. “Nothing that we can’t get past.”

Boahn said Six Nights of Fright will continue its tradition of giving back to the community, with most of the proceeds from the event going to benefit Chocowinity Fire and EMS.

The first year, Raised in a Barn Farm raised $3,000 for the Chocowinity first responders, and last year, it raised about $10,000.

“For one thing, we like to create community events, just for there to be good family fun in the area,” Boahn said. “(First responders) are a very valuable part of our neighborhood. … They’re priceless to our community, so to speak.”

“We get bigger and bigger, and it’s something the whole community looks forward to,” Boahn said. “We put a huge amount of investment in it each year.”
