Beaufort County residents are in for a treat on Tuesday, as The Kat Trio takes the stage in Washington.

Sponsored by the Beaufort County Concert Association, the performance will feature a variety of works, from classical pieces to American favorites, all transposed into Russian-style arrangements.

The Kat Trio is comprised of Victoria Gorbich, violin, Vladislav Gorbich, clarinet, and Joseph Ross, piano. The group began almost 20 years ago, playing for audiences across the Urals, and had its first U.S. tour in 2000.

The Gorbichs have enlisted the help of many guest pianists over the years, but Ross, who studied music in Wisconsin, Michigan and as far away as Hungary, is joining them on the road this time.

The Kat Trio performance also kicks off a milestone for the Concert Association, which is celebrating its 40^th season.

Slated for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Washington High School’s Performing Arts Center, the performance will be preceded by recognition of the big anniversary.

“We’re going to open the doors at 6:30 and have a little celebration for our members,” BCCA President Alma Friedman said. “More than anything, we just want a big 40^th season … which is a long time around here.”

Friedman said the association can only afford a handful of shows each season, so the BCCA board works to ensure that the shows are top quality and pack a punch for the audience — a process that’s facilitated through its partnership with music organization Live on Stage.

“Every year, some people from our organization in August go to Nashville,” Friedman said. “We try to pick out 10 or so of our favorite (acts) that we like. … A lot of these people have been on Broadway.”

Even after its long tenure, however, people still are not aware of BCCA and the work it does, according to Friedman.

No matter, members hope to build up participants and continue enjoying performances for at least another 40 years.

“A lot of people, I think, thought we were part of the arts council at the Turnage,” Friedman said. “I just want everybody to know.”
