The Down East Seniors Club held its Oct. 26 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Ed Hamrick led the meeting. Bill Cheshire led the singing of “God Bless America,” and Charles Smith gave the invocation. Dick Paul provided humor.

Vice President Chip Ide announced that the Christmas party will be held at the Ne’er Do Well restaurant on Dec. 21. Cost will be $25 per person.

Julius Brauer had member Dr. Philip Ninan as the speaker. Ninan spent over 20 years as a psychiatry professor at Emory University in Atlanta and later worked in the pharmaceutical industry. Now in retirement, he has recently launched a new business startup. The corporation is eMindScience, with offices in Greenville. They are now bringing online an application named eMindLog. This is an interactive mobile health application designed to enable self-measurement of the vital signs of the mind. Users can track emotions, thoughts and behaviors along with other experiences. They will get daily scores in the areas of anxiety, anger, sadness and lack of pleasure and weekly measures of stress, interpersonal, function and quality of life. Healthcare professionals can use the results to obtain a more in-depth analysis of the patient’s condition. The use of this service will be free to individuals.
