Frances P. Whitehead

Mrs. Frances Pinkham Whitehead, age 88, a longtime resident of Old Bath Highway, Washington, died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Jim Reed. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Whitehead was born in Beaufort County on December 9, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Bill Pinkham and Annie Myrtle Woolard Pinkham. Mrs. Whitehead graduated from Washington High School in 1946. She served as administrative assistant for the Beaufort County Emergency Management office from 1969 to 1992. Mrs. Whitehead was also the Veterans Service Officer for Beaufort County from 1977 to 1992.
Mrs. Whitehead was a lifelong member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. In 1998, she was awarded the Lay Person of the Year. Mrs. Whitehead was a member of the Choir and was past treasurer of the Church and the United Methodist Women (UMW).
On December 13, 1952, she married Ashley Garland Whitehead, who preceded her in death, June 11, 1979.
Mrs. Whitehead is survived by three sons, A.G. Whitehead Jr. and wife, Karen of Washington and their children, Kristen and Trent, both of Raleigh; Mike Whitehead and wife, Lea Anna of Stantonsburg and their children, Will Whitehead (Lindsay) and their daughter, Anna Riley, Matt Whitehead (Dory Simonsen), all of Raleigh, Doug Whitehead and wife, Valerie of Washington and their daughters, Meredith and Cameron, both of Greenville.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Whitehead was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Pinkham and a sister, Shirley P. Gilfix.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM Thursday prior to the service at Asbury United Methodist Church and other times at the home of her son, A.G. Whitehead, 785 Old Bath Highway, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 88 N. Asbury Church Road, Washington, N.C. 27889.
