The Tyrrell County Board of Education met on Oct. 17 for an afternoon training session with school board attorney Ken Soo of Tharrington Smith, LLP.

During the training the board reviewed policies related to board authority, addressing complaints, code of ethics, due process and maintaining impartiality. A portion of the training was held jointly between the board and school district administration.

The five Tyrrell County Board of Education members are elected for four-year terms to at-large seats; that is, each represents the entire population rather than persons in a specified territory. The school board elections are non-partisan; that is, members do not run as candidates of a political party. The elections are held in the spring in even-numbered years, and terms begin on July 1.

Current members of the Tyrrell County Board of Education are Carlos Armstrong, Karen Clough, Robin Dunbar (chairman), Lee Scripture and Janie Spencer.
