The Adventures of Jim the Turtle: The Beginning, is the first of an intended series of children’s books by Tyrrell County native Andrew Armstrong.

“I first began writing the book in 2007 as part of my high school senior project, which was about the use of animals in children’s literature,” Armstrong said.

He followed “a different career path at that point in time,” and the book languished until now.

“After the birth of my son, Anderson Owen Armstrong, I wanted to do something that would be great and could make a difference in people’s lives and make my son proud of me,” Armstrong explained.

He decided not only to get my book published but to make a series out of it.

All the illustrations were drawn by Armstrong’s grandfather, Max Owen Liverman of Tyrrell County.

The book is available from amazon.com, Barnes & Noble website, Books-A-Million website, and others. “Amazon usually has better prices than the rest and sells for $18.50.”

“I have always been interested in writing ever since I was a little kid.  When I was younger I would write Christian short stories for the church and adventure stories in my spare time,” Armstrong recalled. “I love writing because I have a bunch of ideas in my head and, the best way for me to express what I am thinking is to write and show my creativity.”

He expects the second book to be available next spring.
