The Tyrrell County 911 Center received a call of a house fire at 619 Newlands Road at 2:55 p.m. on Oct. 27, Sheriff Darryl Liverman reported.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, the residence of Avery Morris, and the house was fully engulfed upon their arrival.

Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department, aided by fire companies from Creswell, Lake Phelps and Roper, responded with firefighters and equipment. The N.C. Forest Service also arrived with personnel and a bulldozer with plow.

Washington-Tyrrell EMS, Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Patrol also responded to the scene. The American Red Cross was present to assist.

Newlands Road between N.C. Highway 94 and Riders Creek Road was closed during the incident so that fire trucks could shuttle water from a hydrant at Basnight Lane.

The two-story house and Morris’ truck were a total loss. There were no injuries. Emergency crews cleared the scene shortly after 7 p.m.
