CHOCOWINITY — The 10U Chocowinity Indians scored three touchdowns in the first half, and never looked back as they punched their ticket to the second round of the playoffs. The Washington Saints stiffened up on defense, keeping the Indians out of the end zone in the second half, but ultimately fell 20-0.

After giving up a first down on the Indians’ first play from scrimmage, the Saints nearly made a stop on their first defensive appearance. TeQuan Moore’s 6-yard run brought up a third-and-4 for Chocowinity, which drew Washington offside for the conversion.

Moore broke the ice shortly thereafter with a 9-yard touchdown. With that, the Indians took a 6-0 lead with 3:02 to go in the first quarter.

The Saints fumbled the ball away two plays later, giving the Indians another chance to strike. Jacori Blount took the third-and-7 pitch to the outside, but couldn’t earn the Indians a first down. On fourth-and-3, Washington nearly made another key stop, but Moore ripped off a 27-yard run on the first play of the second quarter.

The run was more than enough for the first down, and it put the Indians on the doorstep. Blount punched it in from 3 yards out to double Chocowinity’s lead to 12-0.

The Saints put the ball on the ground again, and Chris Jones recovered it for the Indians. Blount ran down to the 5-yard line on the next play, setting the table for Moore’s second score of the game. With that, Chocowinity took a 20-0 lead with 3:01 left in the half.

The clock was working against the Saints. They didn’t have much time to drive down and score, but were looking to at least build some offensive momentum to take into the second half. Jamie Corprew had other plans when he snuck behind the line of scrimmage and notched a sack on the last play of the first half.

Even so, the Saints appeared to have some energy as they received the kickoff to start the third period. Jamillieon Gordon trudged up the middle for 9 yards, and Cade Mixon picked up the first down. However, a bad snap on third down left Washington with no other choice than to punt the ball away.

MyQuan Clark and Bryce Williams spearheaded another strong defensive showing for the Saints. Clark brought down Michael Warren behind the line of scrimmage, and Williams made a stop of his own to force a punt.

The Indians iced the game shortly thereafter. Silas Peirce came up with an interception on the next play, allowing the Indians to take over and run out the clock.

Chocowinity’s size advantage up front proved more than enough to stymie Washington’s offense throughout the 32-minute affair.
