The Richland Seniors met on Nov. 1, and President MarLou Reid opened the meeting with 22 members present, Mary Ellen Galloway read the devotion followed by the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Annette Smith gave the treasurer’s report, and Ann Cayton reported that she sent one sympathy card to Eula Oneal who lost five family members recently.

Ann gave a report on Ruth’s House, which was flooded during the recent storm Matthew and their need for help. Alice Briley reported on the power failure in our club days before Matthew; Duke Energy repaired our problem after the storm passed.

Sandi Lilly handed out fliers about our senior Christmas party at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the community center. All local surrounding unities are invited; food, entertainment and Christmas cheer will be provided by our club.

We had a discussion about replacing our flag pole — at this writing, the pole is up. Many thanks to whomever did the work on this (I think Hugh Donahue may be one to thank!).

Our guest speaker was Ann Marie Montague from Eagle’s Wings, she gave a very informative message on the function of Eagle’s Wings and how they are run by faith-based organizations and many volunteers. Many in Beaufort County are in need of assistance and the food bank provides food for these families. Children in our local schools are provided with backpacks containing two meals and snacks for weekend food to take home with them.

The Food Pantry is opened every Tuesday, and care packages are delivered to homebound seniors. Donations are appreciated. Ken Lilly suggested cash donations would be better because they can buy food at a low cost.

The meeting was adjourned to enjoy lunch and fellowship, and Ken Lilly blessed the food.
