Those interested in adopting a pet should inquire at the Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility, 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington. In observance of Thanksgiving, the shelter will be closed Nov. 24–27. Normal hours the shelter is open to the public are Mondays through Fridays, from 1–5:30 p.m., and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Because of overcrowded conditions, the animals listed are only available as indicated.

All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To see more animals available for adoption, visit www.petango.com/beaufortcountyNC, visit ENC Shelter Dogs, ENC Shelter Cats and Washington Cat Rescue on Facebook or call 252-946-4517 for more information. Polo

This approximately 2-year-old, American pit bull terrier-mix is a smart, happy, sweet fellow who loves people, attention and affection. Polo, handsome with a shorthair coat in butterscotch brown with white, is large, active and strong. He will do best as the only animal, because he is not good with male dogs and farm animals. It is unknown how he behaves with other animals. Polo will need owner(s) willing to give him love, attention, exercise in a fenced area or on leash and basic obedience training. Polo deserves a good, loving forever home where he can be a faithful companion. For photos and video, visit www.facebook.com/EncShelterDogs/video/goo.gl/x9HJPS. Polo’s ID#1976. Come spend a little time with Pogo.

Barbie

Stunning in her American medium-hair coat, this tabby girl wears a gorgeous coat with stripes of ebony, warm brown and gray and ivory. One-year-old Barbie has huge emerald/aqua eyes and is very friendly, loving and adores attention. When given the love, warmth and stability of a good forever home, she’ll blossom into a devoted friend, pet and companion.
