Good and faithful servants

To the Editor:

Once again, the holiday season has come. It’s time to sit down and eat our turkey or ham, or maybe both.

This year’s fundraiser to buy turkeys for the homeless shelter came with a makeup drama of a TV show called “Let’s Make a Deal.” We didn’t have the famous TV show host, but we had me, Joseph Savage.

First of all and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving me my health, strength and wisdom to get out of my comfort zone to do the things he would have me to do.

Second, I would like to thank everyone who stopped by the Piggly Wiggly store to play our version of the TV show: “Let’s Make a Deal on the Wheel.” I thank you all for your donations, even for the ones who donated but didn’t come out to play our version of the TV game show.

Special thanks to the local businesses that donated prizes to put on our Wheel Deal to help raise the money needed to buy the turkeys and hams. Stop by our local businesses and make a purchase of some kind because they are a part of this community they help support.

The holiday seasons, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas, have special meaning to each of us in our own way. Some of us may have the privilege to go to a relative or maybe a friend’s house to eat a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Someone who is homeless with no relative or friends to go to, they count it a blessing when they have a place like the Zion Shelter to go during the holidays, or any other days when they can get a meal. I don’t think anyone chooses to be homeless. It can happen to any one of us, or someone you may know.

When you see me out in front of the Piggly Wiggly store after Thanksgiving, I will be raising money to buy the Christmas turkeys and hams for the shelter. Stop by and play our version of the TV show, “Let’s Make a Deal on the Wheel.”

When I have done all I can do, I long to hear the voice of God say to me, “Come on in, my good and faithful servant, and take your rest.” Thank you all for helping me with these fundraising privileges.
