For 52 years, Arts of the Pamlico has been giving artists the chance to be recognized for their work. The public can see that work at the Turnage Theatre, where the work submitted to the annual Fine Arts Show will be on display until Dec. 13.

Eighty-five artists submitted 213 works of art for this year’s show — 124 of them from Beaufort County artists. Entries came from 12 North Carolina counties, according to a press release from Arts of the Pamlico. Notable winners included American Watercolor Society signature artist, and Washington resident, Jeff Jakub earning the Best in Show award, an award he’s won on numerous occasions for his photograph-like watercolors.

Artists were asked to submit work in four categories: graphics/mixed media, oils/acrylics, three dimensional and watercolors. The following artists placed in the Fine Arts Show:

  • Best in Show: Super Structure by Jeffrey Jakub
  • Best Entry for Abstract Work: Hypno…Forms with rays by Cynthia Bickley Green
  • Best Entry from Beaufort County: Valley of Secrets by Maryalice Johnston
  • East Carolina Wildfowl Guild Award: A Work in Progress by Karen Britton
  • Young Ones Award: Pamlico Osprey by Ami Flowers Staples
  • Sound Rivers Award: Who’s First by Jane McCotter
  • Pottery Award: Fruit Bowl, Ceramic & Pine Needles by Kathy Garren
  • Textile Award: Morning Stroll by Debbie McCullough
BEST IN SHOW: Jeff Jakub took the Best in Show award at Arts of the Pamlico’s 52nd-annual Fine Arts Show. An American Watercolor Society member artist, Jakub’s realistic watercolors continue to wow the jurors each year.
