Paul J. Murphy, 74, of Chocowinity, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2nd at 11 a.m. at the Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 112 W. 9th St., Washington.

He was born October 26, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Edward L. and Florence (McAdams) Murphy. He was a member of the Mother of Mercy Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Paul had a distinguished career in Real Estate, Pittsburgh, PA. He began his career as a Realtor with Bernhard in the 70s. Paul opened his own brokerage, Century 21 Murphy Realty in the mid-70s. He served as President of Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh 1980, instructed Dale Carnegie courses, as well as the past President of the North Hills Jaycees.

Paul was in partnership with Precision Equities Land Development in the North Hills. He opened a building company, Allegheny Heritage Builders, with his brother-in-law, John Graff. Prior to retiring, he purchased Treesdale Farms, where he developed the Housing Community. He was also instrumental in the development of the golf course with Arnold Palmer.

Paul is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith A. Murphy (Graff). Paul is also survived by his four children, Christina M. (and Joseph) Calhoun Jr. of Cranberry Twp. PA, Paul J. (and Patricia) Murphy Jr. of Evans City, PA, John S. (and Lisa Nicolas) Murphy of Viera, FL, Christopher T. (and Krista) Murphy of Mars, PA. He is survived by three brothers, Edward (Betty) Murphy, Stephen (Michele) Murphy, Dennis (Susan) Murphy, sister Kathleen (Ronald) Meyers and seven grandchildren, Alexander, Christopher, Jonathan Calhoun, Carly Ference, Anthony Tumminello, Zoe and Quinn Murphy.
