The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period in the Upper Deck, members moved to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order, and Bill Wall led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Song leader Bartow Houston led members in one verse of “America,” and Russell Smith gave thanks for the meal. Members were “abuzz” during the meal, anticipating the upcoming program. President McLawhorn introduced his friend Al Hodge for the evening program. Hodge is a member of the Beaufort County Beekeepers and is very knowledgeable concerning beekeeping. He was answering questions from members before he could begin his talk. He talked about how honeybees came to our country and how they are endangered today. He stressed the importance of bees in many crop productions and explained how some use bee stings for arthritis therapy. Members were very interested in the program and invited Hodge back to share more about beekeeping. Of course, Hodge was presented the highly coveted Rotary pin for his excellent presentation. The meeting came to a close after Tripp Bliley led members in reciting the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
