Butch Oliver has served on the Beaufort County Board of Education for two years. He serves District 8, which covers the Bath attendance area.
Chairman Terry Williams said this about Oliver: “As one of the most recent new school board members, Butch Oliver has brought a sense of enthusiasm and call for action to the table. He has brought expertise in the area of capital projects, which has been extremely helpful. Mr. Oliver has high expectations for the students and staff of Beaufort County. However, he also has high expectations for the school board to provide the best necessary resources to assist our schools in their success. He has made a major impact on our board and it has been a pleasure to bring about positive growth and change alongside Butch Oliver.”
Oliver is very visible in the schools. He is always willing to offer a helping hand in any school that has a need. One might see him at a ball game giving countless hours of support to the coaches and players, at a movie night with the Eastern Elementary School students or even as a DJ at school dances. Like all of the board members, Oliver is dedicated to offering his knowledge and expertise to every child in Beaufort County Schools. His love for all of them shows when he is interacting with them.
Oliver is married, and his wife is a teacher in the district. He has two daughters who have been very involved in academics and athletics at Northside High School.
Over the next several weeks, the Daily News will be highlighting Beaufort County Board of Education members, as part of a spotlight series about the members’ backgrounds and their roles on the board.
