Allen D. Stanford

Allen Dean Stanford, age 82, a resident of Washington, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Wanoca Presbyterian Church in Washington and will be officiated by Travis Boyd. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mr. Stanford was born in Rockingham County on June 3, 1934 to the late Aubrey and Sarah Pearce Stanford. On September 9, 2012, he married Karen Jane Taylor. He was retired from the United States Army, a Bronze Star recipient and veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During the Vietnam War he was an investigator for C.O.R.D.S. Mr. Stanford enjoyed going to auctions and going antiquing. He liked to attend various concerts and plays at ECU’s Fletcher Hall. Mr. Stanford was a member of Wanoca Presbyterian Church and also volunteered at Eagle’s Wings Food Pantry for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Taylor Stanford, two daughters, Susan Chase, Carolyn Sterett, two stepsons, Daniel Coffield and wife Joyce, Heath Coffield, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two sisters, Lilly Price and Sarah Jenkins.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Stanford and a brother, Aubrey Stanford Jr.

The family will receive friends at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
