The Tyrrell Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) meets every other month to identify issues and factors that influence and have an impact upon delinquent youth, at-risk youth and their families in Tyrrell County.

JCPC is comprised of community members, including school counselors, the school resource officer and one student representative.

JCPC works to identify the strategies and services most likely to reduce and prevent delinquent behavior.

“Currently we have in place a continuum of community resources to address delinquent and at-risk behavior that includes year-long interpersonal skills programming for at-risk and court-referred juveniles, a summer prevention program (CATS), and restitution/community service,” said Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent.

Current data show that 71.4 percent of Tyrrell offenders, ages 6-17, only have one court referral. More than 50 percent of these students feel rejected by peers.
