Published 6:49 pm Friday, December 23, 2016
The Richland Seniors met on Dec. 6. Alice Briley opened the meeting with 13 members present.
Jonell Barber held our devotion, followed by a moment of silence to remember our members who have passed on, prayed the Lord’s Prayer, followed by the Pledge of Alliance to the flag.
Annette Smith asked that we remember Katey Gagen, as she is home bound.
Alice reported that Ann Cayton sent a card to Sylvia Carrow regarding the loss of her sister. She also thanked Barbara Jones for help with the Christmas party and thanked all members for making this one of the best programs thus far. She also thanked Ken and Sandy Lilley, Judith Chapman and Patricia Minor for our entertainment — what an amazing job they did.
Alice reported that Ruth’s House is in need of more items and asked that all members donate to this worthy cause.
Hugh Donahue gave MarLou’s regrets that she is too busy with family to remain as our president. She founded the Richland Senior Club many years ago and has led us in the right direction. We will give it our best to carry on as she would want us to do. She is still in our club and will guide us, as I’m sure we will need her help.
She also sent her thanks to the club and to the Town of Aurora for honoring her 20-plus years of service.
Hugh reported the he has replaced our flag with a new one from the Marine Corps PX.
We finalized our plans to have lunch on Jan. 6 at the China Bay Restaurant in Chocowinity and to tour Eagle’s Wings.
Alice also discussed plans to purchase from the Piggly Wiggly in Grantsboro four turkey dinners to be delivered to our local school for needy families.
50/50 was one by Terrey Mathias and donated back to club.
James Parker ask God’s blessing on our food, and fellowship was enjoyed by all.
Merry Christmas!
