Pam Pack wrestling wins easy

BETHEL — Washington wrestling competed in a 2-A Eastern Plains Conference quad on Thursday. The Pam Pack met Southwest Edgecombe and North Johnston, and handedly defeated both.

Logan Nichols, Khyrik McCloud and Jacob Smith all won both their matches by pin. The Pam Pack was also handed plenty of wins via forfeit. It beat North Johnston 72-9, and Southwest Edgecombe 78-3.

The decisive wins keep Washington on the fast track to its third-straight conference championship. The Pam Pack was slated to travel to Clayton for a tournament this weekend. Because of the weather, the team will instead compete in a tournament at Ayden-Grifton.

Panthers routed at Pamlico County

BAYBORO — Atia Shamseldin and Bryson Radcliffe both scored in double digits, but it wasn’t enough as Pamlico County flew past Northside, 86-53, on Thursday.

Cedric Coffey had 18 points and Malik Barber poured in another 15 for the homestanding Hurricanes. Two others scored in double figures, too.

Both teams came out firing in the first quarter as the Hurricanes took a 21-14 lead after eight minutes of action. They more than doubled Northside’s offensive output in the second en route to a 40-22 advantage at halftime.

Pamlico County scored 23 in each of the final two quarters to shut the door on a lopsided win.

Farmville Central edges Lady Pack

FARMVILLE — Farmville Central scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Washington, 52-46, on Thursday. The Lady Pack was a bit stagnant in the first half on the road against a one-loss league opponent.

Daria Jones led Washington with 23 points, which was half the team’s total. Kayla Barrett had 17 points for the Lady Jaguars, and Qynesha Pettiway chipped in another 13.

The two were tied 12 apiece after the first. Farmville Central outscored Washington 14-9 in the second to take a 26-21 lead by halftime. The Lady Pack drew within one by the end of the third, but was outscored 17-12 in the final eight minutes.

Defending champs drop Washington

FARMVILLE — Washington lost its fourth game in a row to defending 2-A state champion Farmville Central. The Jaguars outscored the Pam Pack in each quarter to win 81-64.

Senior Jaguar point guard Tyler Maye exploded for 40 points in the win. Nazzir Hardy and Sharwan Staton each had 14 points for the Pam Pack.

One point separated Washington and Farmville Central at the end of the first. The Jaguars only led by nine entering the fourth, but outscored their visitors 23-15 in the final period.

Washington went winless through a three-game week. It will stay on the lookout for its first conference win when it hits the road for Beddingfield and North Johnston next week.
