Arts Center announces winter 2017 line-up

The following classes are coming up at MATTIE Arts Center in the old courthouse, 10 Oyster Creek Road, Swan Quarter. For more information, call 252-926-2787.

 

Wire Sculpture
Jan. 20 | 6:30-8:30 p.m.

This is an exciting class, even for beginners, conducted by Heike Winfield. With the use of jeweler pliers, participants will create 3-D figures (fish in this case) with glass beads and wire.

Instruction fee is $30 per student plus $5 materials. Watch for more advanced classes soon.

 

Wildlife Oil Painting
Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28 | 6:30-9 p.m.

Instructor Kaye Lee Brady will conduct this four-part, 10-hour workshop for all skill levels. From her photo library, students will select at least one wildlife subject of their choosing to complete on a 16-inch-by-20-inch stretch canvass. Depending on skill level, students may complete more than one painting. Workshop instruction fee is $70. Materials and supplies are $15 for entire workshop.

 

Fundamentals of Drawing
Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23 | 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Instructor Kaye Lee Brady will conduct this four-part, eight-hour workshop geared for beginners and/or 2016 returning intermediate students on basic drawing, shapes, perspective, techniques, shading and highlighting. Workshop instruction fee is $60. Workshop materials and supplies for brand new students is $15 and includes portfolio-size sketchbook and all drawing tools (pencils, gum eraser, ruler, protractor, etc.). Returning students should bring their supplies from last year to avoid additional cost.

Intermediate and advanced student classes coming in March.

 

Wire/ Bead Powder Coating
Feb. 25 | 9 a.m. to noon

Our favorite pottery instructor, Carolyn Sleeper, has branched out into new media forms. In this class, she will teach participants the process of creating powder-coated, wire-wrapped bead jewelry.

More details on this class to follow, but with Carolyn, we already know it will be great and lots of fun. Cost is $30 per student plus $5 for material/ supplies.
