Knights close out in fourth quarter

PANTEGO — Terra Ceia outscored John Paul II 20-9 in the fourth to close out a 69-52 win. Shaiquan Moore scored 30 points, firing at a 65-percent clip, to lead the Knights to their 14th win. Darius Blackledge (14) and Messiah Barnes (12) each scored in double figures, too.

John Paul II trimmed its deficit to six points by the end of the third quarter, but the Knights took over after that. It was the only period they were outscored in.

Tyler Hendrix and Moore each grabbed a team-high eight boards.

Despite largely shooting well from the field, Terra Ceia didn’t find much success from behind the arc. Moore’s two 3-pointers made him the only player on the team with multiple makes from long range.

Lady Aces’ strong first half beats Northside

EDENTON — Edenton scored 15 points in each of the first two quarters en route to a 48-34 win over Northside on Friday. The road loss was Northside’s fourth setback in a row.

The Lady Panthers held Edenton to just four points in the third quarter. Rachel Lang led the Lady Panthers with 18 points — over half of their scoring output. Even between Lang and the defensive performance, the first-half deficit was too much to overcome.

Northside showed improvement from start to finish. The offense notched 12 points in the fourth, which was the most it scored in any single period.

After a weeklong layoff, the Lady Panther wrap up a four-game road stretch at Southside on Friday.
