Ethel Elks Barnhill

Ethel Elks Barnhill, 92, of Goldsboro, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

Ethel was born in Pitt County on December 6, 1924 to the late Walter Leon Elks and Nancy Cutler Elks. She was married to the late William Leslie Barnhill. Ethel lived a life of dedication to her family and friends, and to her community. She served her community many ways as a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and the Goldsboro Woman’s Club. She was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she served in many of their ministries.

A service of remembrance will be held for Ethel on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Eugene Carpenter presiding. Interment will be on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville, NC. The family will receive friends Friday, January 20, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.

Ethel is survived by her son, William Leslie Barnhill Jr. and wife Kimberly of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Nancy Barnhill Seymour and husband Paul of Utica, NY; brother, Richard Wayne Elks of Leland; her grandchildren, William Leslie Barnhill III, Christopher David Barnhill, Brooke Ellen Barnhill, Paula Mae Seymour and Jason Case Seymour; and a great-grandson, Oliver Phillip Seymour.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be given to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild, 200 N. James Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
