BCCC announces scholarship recipients

The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of scholarships through the BCCC Foundation for the spring 2017 semester.

Shieka Benthall of Williamston has received the Washington Rotary Club Scholarship. Benthall, 21, attended Riverside High School and is a practical nursing student. Daughter of Sandra and Raynard Benthall of Williamston, she plans to work at Vidant Beaufort Hospital or for the Veterans Administration.

Denise Bolafka of Washington has received the Archbell Teaching Scholarship. Bolafka, 60, is a special education student and attended Rio Linda High School. Wife of Michael Bolafka and mother of three, she plans to earn a bachelor’s degree from ECU and open a school for autistic children. Bolafka currently works at Pinnacle Home Healthcare.

Courteney Bowden of Washington has received the Washington Rotary Club Scholarship. Bowden, 20, attended Beaufort County Early College High School and is a criminal justice student. Daughter of Shelia and Christopher Bowden, she plans to work as a crime scene investigator.

Zach Cosentino of Washington has received the BCCC Staff Association Scholarship and the Gordon & Ester Malmfeldt Scholarship. Cosentino, 20, is the son of Melanie and Paul Cosentino of Washington. He attended Northside High School and is an agribusiness and construction-equipment systems student.

Stacy Dennis of Blounts Creek has received the Archbell Teaching Scholarship and the Community Endowment Scholarship. Dennis, 41, attended Chocowinity High School and is an early-childhood education student. She is the daughter of Malvin King and Harvey E. Dennis Sr. and mother of one. She plans to be a teacher and currently works in the bakery at Walmart.

Jamie Hauser of Washington has received the Myrtle Cutler Jones Scholarship. Hauser, 18, is part of the RIBN nursing program. She attended First Flight High School and is the daughter of Daphne and Clay Hauser of Kitty Hawk. She plans to get her bachelor’s degree.

Elizabeth Knox of Pinetown has received the BCCC Trustee Endowment Scholarship. Knox, 31, attended Washington High School and is working toward an associate degree in nursing. Mother of two and the wife of Michael Knox, she also holds a bachelor’s degree in health care management. She plans to continue her education at ECU with the goal of becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner.

Tribecca Moore of Washington has received the Community Endowment Scholarship. Moore, 19, attended Washington High School and is a student in the criminal justice program. Daughter of Anthony and Marie Moore of Washington, she plans to work her way up to homicide investigator. Moore works as a waitress at El Tapatio.

Ashley Watson of Wilson has received the Washington Women’s Club Scholarship. Watson, 23, attended Washington High School and is pursuing an associate degree in nursing. She plans to obtain her master’s while working in the ER. Daughter of Joe Cox of Washington and Lisa Woolard of Bath, Watson is currently employed as a sales associate at Omega Sports.

Veronica White of Plymouth has received the Myrtle Cutler Jones Endowment Scholarship. White, 34, attended Plymouth High School and is working toward an associate degree in nursing. Daughter of Catherine Combs and William Barrow of Plymouth and mother of three, she plans to work with the State of North Carolina as a nurse. Moore works as an LPN with Northcare Health Services and holds an associate in general education.
