Donald Gene Wallace, age 81, a resident of Washington, died Friday, February 10, 2017 at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, February 13, 2017 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Ray West and Steve Hill. Pallbearers include Chad Wallace, Bryan Wallace, John S. Taylor, Jimmy Swain, Larry Moore and Michael Thomas. Honorary pallbearers include Phillip Lee, Ed Mercer, Wesley Beddard, Bobby Davis and Elwood Swain.
Mr. Wallace was born on August 31, 1935 to the late Ervin Lidway Wallace and Ruby Lee Woolard Wallace. He was a 1954 graduate of Bath High School. On September 23, 1955, he married Annie Belle Haddock who survives. Mr. Wallace worked in maintenance at PCS for 29 years until he retired in 1997. He was a member of First Church of Christ in Washington. Mr. Wallace loved using his singing talent for the Lord, and he sang in the Colonial Quartet in Virginia and for Redeemed in Washington.
In addition to his wife, Annie Haddock Wallace, survivors include two children, Caren Newman and husband Tom of Bath, Keith Wallace and wife Wendy of Washington; three grandchildren, John Scott Taylor, Bryan Wallace, Chad Wallace; a brother Rupert Wallace and wife Alene of Washington; and a sister Reba Hamilton and husband Nathan of High Point, NC. He is preceded in death by a grandson, U.S. Army Specialist Joel Allen Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM Monday, February 13, 2017 at the First Church of Christ Family Life Center and other times at the home.
