Washington bounced by Clinton

CLINTON — Washington outscored Clinton, 15-12, in the second quarter, but couldn’t overcome an explosive start from the Lady Dark Horses in a 80-39 loss on Tuesday.

Daria Jones led the Lady Pack with 15 points. Trazyia Windley and Sheckairia Boomer each had 3-pointers in the game, but Washington couldn’t keep up with Clinton’s potent offense.

The hosts scored 32 points in the first eight minutes and never looked back. Despite getting outscored in the second, Clinton held a commanding 44-23 lead at halftime.

The Lady Dark Horses stymied Washington’s offense in the second half. The visitors couldn’t score in double digits in either of the final two quarters. Meanwhile, Clinton poured in another 21 points in the third and sealed the deal with a 15-point showing in the final eight minutes.

The loss marks the end of Washington’s girls’ basketball season.

DURHAM — Northside couldn’t quite keep up with a long Voyager Academy club. The Vikings, who have four players that stand 6-foot-4 or taller, countered the Panthers’ size inside en route to a 73-60 win.

The junior duo of Michael Boadu and Jordan Love each scored 17 points for Voyager Academy. Love and Chase Elliot also combined for 15 rebounds.

Freshman point guard Rashod Smith finished with 18 points to help Northside keep pace with its hosts. Atia Shamseldin (11) and Braeden Cooper (10) also scored in double figures.

The Panthers narrowly trailed, 47-42, after three periods of play. The Vikings scored 26 in the fourth — the most it had in any quarter — to seal the deal.

In addition to their post play, the Vikings shot 8-of-20 from behind the arc.

Northside ends the season 14-11 (6-6 1-A Coastal Plains).
