The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday evening at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. Members enjoyed their social period in the Upper Deck before moving to the Pamlico Room for dinner and business.

President David McLawhorn welcomed everyone, and Dr. David Swarner led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Russell Smith led in singing one verse of “America” and gave thanks for the meal.

Bill Wall gave an update on the Charlie Griffin Memorial Fishing Tournament. There is a lot of work to be done, and members need to get involved to ensure a successful event. Griffin was a long-time Rotarian and always worked hard to make the tournament a success.

After the meal, McLawhorn called on program Chairman Norm Koestline to introduce his guest. Koestline proudly introduced his daughter, Sarah Fite, to present the evening program. Fite serves as northern coastal supervisor for Tryon Distributors of Charlotte. This encompasses a 12-county area in which she is responsible for the sales and distribution of many brands of wine offered by Tryon. Fite made the evening very fun. She shared insights into wine and then had members participate in a blind tasting. Her knowledge of her product was most impressive, and she answered many questions about grapes, wine processing and history. She has an open invitation to speak and share any time! She was presented the coveted Rotary pen for a job well done. Koestline led members in reciting the Four-Way Test to close the meeting.
