Robert Lawrence Mey

Mr. Robert Lawrence Mey, age 95, a resident of Harvey Road, Washington, died Friday, March 17, 2017. Robert was born December 2, 1921 to the late Margaret Neubeck Mey and Alfred Mey in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a United States Coast Guard veteran in WWII and was an engineer for Singer Furniture Company retiring in 1990. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Coletta Stack Mey in 1988; one sister Evelyn Heuser; two brothers: Alfred Mey and Clarence Mey. Survivors include his wife, Ann Chipka Mey; three daughters: Christine M. Fouts of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cynthia A. Mey (Reggie) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Laura Elks and husband Carlton “Hank” of Chocowinity, North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Pam Thomas (Rick) of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Delores Pogue of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren: Kaitlyn and David Fouts, Candice Bottoms (Zac) and Kyle Biggers, Megan and Kelly Elks; and one great-granddaughter, Cayden Bottoms. A graveside celebration of his life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, with Deacon Katherine Mitchell officiating. Military honors will follow. The family will receive friends immediately following at the graveside. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Mey family.
