Make a Barn Quilt

Quilters who have completed the beginning class will enjoy coming together to design, piece, sew and quilt. Barn quilts are charming and homey, and the squares may be customized to include personal features from the quilter’s or gift recipient’s life. A class full of quilters at BCCC is lively and charming. Those with some quilting experience will find this class a welcoming place. It will take place on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. starting April 11 and costs $40.

 

In Pursuit of Ethic (for Current and Prospective Business Owners)

This program of the BBB of Eastern North Carolina Educational Foundation is an entertaining and highly effective training device for both students and adult members of the workforce. It consists of various video modules depicting real-life situations, which lead to ethical dilemmas.

At crucial points, the videos stop and allow classroom discussions. The participating viewers determine the course of action followed by the video characters. The facilitator can go back and show the results of what might have been if the class had selected a different course of action.

Correct and incorrect answers all have consequences and are not always predictable.

“In Pursuit of Ethics” shows that ethical decision-making is not always right or wrong, black or white, but rather challenging and often gray. It encourages participants to use positive character traits and self-check questions to make the best decisions they can. They also learn that the right decision can be the most difficult, and that decisions have consequences.

Instructor Steve Fromme founded a printing company and, after operating it successfully for 33 years, sold the business in 2008. He served on the board of directors of BBB of Eastern N.C. for over three decades and nearly as long on the board of its Educational Foundation, prior to accepting his current position as the Educational Foundation’s executive director. This seminar will take place on April 11 from 2-5 p.m. and is free.

 

Beekeeping Basics

This class is for students interested in keeping bees in their garden or farm. They will learn the importance of bees to our food crops and garden success, and get a good foundation for beekeeping and a greater appreciation of these vital pollinators. Berry Hines Sr., a certified N.C. Master Beekeeper, will lead this class. Students will visit a beekeeping operation and don a bee suit and inspect hives up close. This class starts April 20, runs from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursdays and costs $45.

 

QuickBooks 101

This essential seminar is geared toward the non-accountant who covers the important steps necessary to properly set up a QuickBooks company data file for a business or nonprofit.

Learn helpful insights, tips and valuable advice to help save time, money and avoid frustration, using QuickBooks for bookkeeping and reporting. This seminar is taught by an accountant and QuickBooks consultant with over 20 years’ experience helping small business owners.

It will be a helpful primer for those who wish to use QuickBooks for their business accounting.

Individuals who have taken QuickBooks classes or currently use QuickBooks will also benefit from attending. This seminar will take place on April 26 from 2-5 p.m. and is free.

 

Understanding the Income and Balance Sheet

Successful entrepreneurs realize the importance of understanding financial statements. This popular seminar helps participants feel at ease when it comes to understanding and preparing their own financial statements. It is also highly suggested for those wishing to set up and use QuickBooks or other software for their bookkeeping and for those developing a business plan.

The presenter is an accountant and educator who shares easy to understand explanations and examples. This is a great foundational seminar to start and keep a business on the right track.

Individuals who have taken QuickBooks classes or currently use QuickBooks will also benefit from attending. This seminar will take place on April 27 from 2-5 p.m. and is free.
