Southside wallops Tarboro

TARBORO — Sarah Shingleton had a hat trick, Savannah Edwards and Carleigh Findley pitched a shutout, and Southside picked up its fourth win of its inaugural campaign, 6-0, at Tarboro on Monday.

Findley also scored twice. Sindy Chavez had a goal, too. Leydi Jimenez and Shingleton each had an assist in the win.

The win marked a sweep of the Lady Vikings. The Lady Seahawks return to action when they host East Carteret on April 24.

 

Unity wins ugly

CHOCOWINITY — Unity improved to 10-0 on the season by beating Mattamuskeet in ugly fashion on Monday. After conceding four unearned runs right out of the gate, Unity responded with four runs of its own to negate the damage en route to a 21-11 win.

Macy Main pitched a complete game to earn her ninth win of the season. Main went 3-for-5 with two doubles. Grace Rose was 3-for-4 with a double.

After hitting the road Tuesday, Unity returns home to host Terra Ceia for its final home game of the season on Wednesday.

 

Lawrence sweeps Knights

MERRY HILL — Lawrence Academy got 10 hits off of Terra Ceia’s pitching staff and capitalized on a pair of errors in an 8-3 win on Monday, completing the sweep of the Knights. The Warriors had blanked Terra Ceia at home, 10-0, last week.

While the Knights collected seven hits, they struggled to get much from Lawrence pitcher Jarrett Harrell. He conceded just one earned run and struck out 17 in his seven frames of work.

The Warriors struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Terra Ceia scored twice in the fourth to knot the game, but Lawrence poured in six runs between the fifth and sixth frames to run away with the game.

 

Northeast Academy edges Pungo

BELHAVEN — Nate VanStaalduinen scored twice, and four Raiders collected a hit in Monday’s game. It wasn’t enough, though, as Northeast Academy scooted past Pungo, 9-7.

Northeast was efficient in scoring a run per hit. Brady Hudnell conceded four runs on as many hits in three innings of work to start the game. Archer Johnson three 3 1/3 frames of relief, giving up five runs, and Ben Simmons put in a third of an inning.

Pungo travels to Ridgecroft on Thursday before the Easter break.
