Mrs. Kathleen B. Walker of Tilghman Forest, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Monday, March 3, 2003, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., with the Rev. Dr. John Gambrell and the Rev. Mike Vipperman officiating. Entombment will follow in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Southeastern Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Walker was born in Whiteville, the daughter of the late John Calvin and Martha Estella Prince Blackman. She was married to Howard Thomas Walker, who survives. In her early career, she was employed with the Luckenbach Steamship Co. in Brooklyn, N.Y., and later was an agent with National Old Line Insurance Co. and was the first woman to make the millionaires convention. She was former co-owner of Westover Farms in Plymouth, and the Grand Motel in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was a member of the 1st District Congressional Committee, past president of the Democratic Women's Club and past chairwoman of Washington County Democratic Party in Plymouth. She was a member of the Yaupon Garden Club. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher of the First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Survivors include one son, Howard Jerome Walker of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 5-7 p.m. at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
