From Food Bank of the Albemarle

ELIZABETH CITY — For the Easter holiday, Food Lion Feeds donated 15,000 pounds of chicken to Food Bank of the Albemarle to feed hungry individuals and families.

In addition, Food Lion donated more than 200,000 pounds of fresh meat to 10 regional food-bank partners across its 10-state footprint to benefit families fighting hunger.

“We are incredibly grateful for all that Food Lion and Food Lion Feeds contributes to the food bank,” said Liz Reasoner, executive director of Food Bank of the Albemarle. “We are always appreciative of donations of meat and protein, and this will go directly to the hungry men, women and children in the communities we serve.”

High-protein, fresh food donations are particularly beneficial to food banks, as the majority of donations received are non-perishable items, such as canned goods. The 15,000-pound meat donation, the equivalent of 12,500 meals, will be distributed to agency partners across Food Bank of the Albemarle’s 15-county service area.

“Holiday meals are a time for families to gather around the table and enjoy a meal together, but families fighting hunger cannot always experience that simple joy,” said Christy Phillips-Brown, director of external communications and community relations for Food Lion. “Food banks do tremendous work every day of the year to help feed members of their communities fighting hunger, and we hope that this donation will allow them to do even more to help feed our neighbors in need this Easter holiday.”
