CHOCOWINITY — Students and staff at Chocowinity Primary School are planning a series of fundraising activities benefiting Relay for Life in Beaufort County.

The school kicked off the events April 12 with a “Kiss a Pig” paper feet contest. For 50 cents, students purchased one foot or two for $1. That contest runs through May 3.

Staff members representing each “house team” at CPS have stepped up for the honor of kissing a pig. When students purchase feet, they will designate into which jar their money goes.

The potential pig kissers are Principal Alicia Vosburgh (Alturismo), computer lab specialist Rufus Moore (Amistad), physical education teacher Rosalyn Grimes (Reveur) and art teacher Sheri Matthews.

The fourth-grade students also honed their skills for a series of kickball games last Friday. The students divided into their respective house teams and the winning team took on a staff team later that afternoon. The students raised money for Relay for Life by paying $2 to play or $1 to be a spectator. Students from all grade levels watched the grand finale game.

The kickball games were dubbed “Kickin’ for Mr. Kevin” and are held in honor of Kevin Cutler, a kindergarten assistant at CPS who is undergoing cancer treatments.

Proceeds from all activities will help fund cancer research.

Other activities are in the works and will be announced at a later date. A CPS team of staff members will represent the school during Beaufort County’s Relay for Life festivities set for May 5 at Festival Park on the Washington waterfront.
