Mrs. Josephine “Jo” Harris Taylor, age 82, a resident of Chocowinity, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be officiated by Pastor Ola Forbes Jr. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Beaufort County on January 9, 1935 to the late Jesse Rodney and Edna Earle Harris. She was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School. On January 21, 1953, she married Lloyd Rufus Taylor who survives. She was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church in Chocowinity and was the church floral consultant and helped decorate the church during holidays. Mrs. Taylor began work with Moss Planing Mill, and she worked for H.E. Harding Real Estate until she decided to open her own floral business. She retired from Piggly Wiggly Floral Department after many years of service. Mrs. Taylor worked many jobs, but her first love was mowing her yard with her Yardman mower, which she would always say, “don’t you mess with my mower.” She was a loving mother and grandmother and was tirelessly dedicated to her family.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Gregory Taylor and wife Barbara, a daughter, Vicki Vaughan and husband Gopher, both of Chocowinity, three grandchildren, Greg Taylor Jr., Robyn Taylor Hales, Dustin Ryan Dixon, four great-grandchildren, Caitlynn Taylor, Justin Blake Manning, Chase Hales, Lena Marie “Curly” Nobles, a brother, Eldon Harris, a sister, Lynda Alligood, both of Washington, several nieces and nephews and many good friends.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Harley Ray Harris.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Friday, April 21, 2017 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
