John “Johnny” Leggett Jr.

Mr. John Gray “Johnny” Leggett Jr., age 69, a resident of 1270 Leggett Road, Washington, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Pastor Jack Holloman and Pastor Gary Harper.

A private entombment will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

The following will serve as active pallbearers: Mike Woolard, Rudy Toler, Roy Buck, Ed Dixon, Ricky Brann and Mitchell Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynwood Glover, Kenneth Dixon, Kelly Alligood, Charlie Edwards and Donnie Edwards.

Mr. Leggett was born in Pitt County on February 9, 1948. He was the son of the late John Gray Leggett and Della Estelle Whitley Leggett. Mr. Leggett graduated from Washington High School and Pitt Community College. He was a retired machinist with Potash Corporation with 39 years of service. He was a member of Snowd Branch Church of God and the Old Cove Hunting Club. In his spare time, Mr. Leggett enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and going to car shows.

On May 1, 1971, Mr. Leggett married Diane Lancaster, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Christopher John Leggett and wife Cristy of Washington; a daughter, Renee Leggett Asby and husband, Ted of Washington; a brother, James Allen Leggett and wife, Jackie of Washington; sister, Jennifer Leggett Whitehurst and husband, Lloyd of Washington; three grandchildren, Cierra Lassiter, Grace Lassiter, Michael Asby; and Godchildren, Jackson and Hunter Lancaster.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Leggett was preceded in death by a brother, Gorham Ward Leggett.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made “In Memory of Johnny Leggett” to the Snowd Branch Church of God Life Center, 3283 V.O.A. Road, Washington, N.C. 27889.
