The Washington (evening) Rotary Club celebrated its annual Family Night on Thursday evening at the beautiful Pamlico River home of Sam and Barbara Grimes. Tripp Bliley and Brownie Futrell manned the grill to provide the perfect meal for waterfront dining. President David McLawhorn used the occasion to make several special presentations.

First and foremost, Jeff Larson was named as Rotarian of the Year for the evening club as well as Rotarian of the Year for area three of our district. Jeff is a Paul Harris Fellow and provides leadership in most all areas of the Washington Rotary Club. He is actively involved in all the club’s social events and fundraising projects.

Another special presentation was made to Rocky Jacobs. At the most recent district meeting, Rocky was the recipient of the Glenn Eure Leadership Award. Rocky received this award for his continuing efforts through Rotary to help eradicate polio all over the world. Rocky and his wife, Jo, have traveled countless miles all over the world in the name of Rotary. The evening Rotary Club is honored to have members like Jeff Larson and Rocky Jacobs. Both men have shown time and again the practice of “Service Above Self.”

President McLawhorn called on foundation Chairman Rocky Jacobs to make several Paul Harris Fellow presentations. First time recipients were Jeff Larson, Terri McLawhorn and Serena Sullivan. Plus-one recipients were Russell Smith and Dr. Tim Klugh. President David McLawhorn was a plus-two recipient and Bill Wall and Sam Grimes were plus-five recipients. Members and guest enjoyed good food and fellowship until the sun dropped. Next week members return to the Washington Yacht & Country Club.
